The Future of LNG Shipping Takes Shape

In a bold move that underscores the growing demand for cleaner energy solutions, French engineering powerhouse Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has been tapped to design advanced containment systems for two state-of-the-art liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. These vessels, each boasting a staggering 174,000 cubic-meter capacity, are being built by an undisclosed Asian shipyard for a prominent shipowner in the region.

GTT’s involvement marks a significant step forward in the evolution of LNG transport. The company’s renowned NO96 membrane containment system, known for its efficiency and reliability, will be integrated into both carriers. This technology ensures the safe and efficient storage of LNG at ultra-low temperatures, making it a cornerstone of modern gas shipping.

A Timeline for Innovation

While the identities of the shipyard and shipowner remain under wraps, GTT has revealed that the vessels are slated for delivery in the second and third quarters of 2027. This timeline aligns with the global push toward cleaner energy sources, as LNG continues to play a pivotal role in the transition away from traditional fossil fuels.

This latest project adds to GTT’s impressive portfolio, which includes recent collaborations with industry giants like Samsung Heavy Industries, Hudong-Zhonghua, and Hanwha Ocean. Earlier this year, GTT secured contracts to design tanks for multiple LNG carriers, further cementing its position as a leader in the field.

Pioneering Floating LNG Solutions

Beyond its work on LNG carriers, GTT is also making waves in the floating LNG sector. The company recently inked a strategic partnership with China Offshore Engineering & Technology to optimize solutions for floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) and floating storage and regasification units (FSRU). This collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of offshore LNG operations, paving the way for a greener future in energy production and distribution.

As the world continues to embrace LNG as a cleaner alternative to coal and oil, GTT’s innovative designs and strategic partnerships are setting the standard for the industry. With its cutting-edge technology and forward-thinking approach, the company is not just building tanks—it’s shaping the future of global energy transport.
